Download the topline report and watch the videos from the “Modern Customer Engagement Journey”, a unique research project that illustrates consumers’ attitudes and values related to energy, smart home technology, their electricity providers and more during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This research was developed from more than 30 on-camera interviews recorded from June 15 to July 2 in the United States and Canada. These interviews focused on understanding the reasons behind consumers’ energy-related behaviors and their views on their electricity providers, renewable energy and other important issues.



The videos for this project include a summary video (above), a key takeaways video and one video for each of the consumer segments that were part of the research: Green Innovators, Tech-savvy Proteges and the Movable Middle. Download SECC's “Customer Experience & Expectations" report which seeks to understand how grid modernization and experiences with a broad range of service providers have impacted consumers’ attitudes toward their energy provider.

The research was conducted as an online survey of 2,000 respondents across the U.S., and findings were analyzed in total and across five key consumer segments, three energy user profiles and four categories of technology use.

The study probed customers on six key touchpoints with their energy provider, like starting a new service or remediating a problem, and uncovered customer preferences and expectations on each of these interactions. Customer perceptions of best-in-class service providers for these interactions were also explored.
